Job Description

Skills and Requirements:

  • An appropriate Educational Psychology qualification ;
  • Previous Educational Psychology experience, preferably gained in a school environment;
  • In addition the successful incumbent must:
  • Be registered as a Psychologist with the HPCSA (Educational Psychologist);
  • Have experience with:
  • administering psycho-educational/psychometric assessments (administration and interpretation);
  • administering IEB assessment batteries;
  • the IEB examination accommodation procedures.
  • A sound understanding of legislation relevant to promoting the best interests of children, young people and their families;
  • Intermediate IT skills;
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Professional, flexible, conscientious and able to act with discretion at all times;
  • Be able to handle conflict and work in a pressurised environment;
  • Be a self-motivated team player with good organisational, time management and administration skills;
  • Ability to promote and embrace diversity and inclusion;
  • Be able to identify with the values, ethos and mission of our school;
  • Comply with all POPIA requirements;
  • Valid PDP driver’s licence;
  • Prepared to work overtime and on weekends;
  • Requisite clearance certificates.

Duties and Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Involvement in the all-round wellbeing of pupils at the School (behavioural, emotional and social wellbeing);
  • Administering assessments (complete range of psychological and educational batteries);
  • Providing advice on interventions from a psychological and/or educational perspective to teachers, pupils and parents;
  • Assisting with the running of the Educational Support Programme, handling all applications for IEB accommodations, counselling and guiding/communicating with pupils, parents and teachers in this regard;
  • Being an integral part of the design of school policies and procedures for mental wellbeing, mental health and educational support;
  • Identifying best practice, driving the implementation of psychological services and providing ongoing feedback to management;
  • Identifying students who require special interventions and referring to appropriate practitioners as and when necessary;
  • Collaborating with educational staff to create co-ordinated interventions;
  • Efficient and ethical recording keeping;
  • Establishing, delivering and/or facilitating workshops and training and supporting guidelines for teachers and house parents and if applicable pupils and parents;
  • Participating actively & positively in parent / teacher days;
  • Crisis management;
  • General administration.
