An exciting and challenging position exists for a K9 Manager in Kruger NP, within Ranger Services and under the Conservation & Area Integrity Management Division.
The position will report directly to the Head Ranger: Ranger Services.
• Diploma in Animal Behaviour/Policing/Conservation Management or equivalent qualification within the related field or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
• Dog Handling DH1-5 (NQF 3-5) Qualification.
• At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in working with, deploying and training canines, which include human-scent, detection and apprehension canines. Previous proven dog-handling and operational deployment experience is mandatory.
• A valid South African Code 08 driver’s license.
• Must be a South African citizen or in possession of a valid South African work permit.
• Multiple firearm type handling skills i.e. handgun, shotgun, self-loading rifle or carbine.
• K9 Handler skills or training related to conducting effective patrols and the execution of anti-poaching operations through deployment, observation posts and camping deployments will be an added advantage.
• A genuine interest and passion for working with canines and the application of canines to support Conservation initiatives.
• Strong ethics and high level of integrity, discipline and accountability.
• Good administration and report-writing skills and the ability to report findings clearly and concisely.
• People skills- demonstrate confident, clear and effective communicator (both verbally and in writing) with clients, stakeholders and team members.
• Must have strong task and deadline orientation.
• Good problem solving and conflict resolution skills and the ability to motivate and lead all employees.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment and to safeguard assets under his/her supervision.
• Proven experience in their ability to maintain operational links with relevant stakeholders throughout the anti-poaching and canine community with regards to keeping abreast with the latest anti-poaching evolutions, with specific reference to the use of canines in anti-poaching or Law Enforcement operations.
